This service is managed by the Community Health Councils (CHCs) of Powys and is
based from offices in Newtown and Brecon. The CHC is Independent of the NHS and
exists to help, support and represent patients and the public to the NHS.
The services we offer are free and independent of any NHS or Local Authority direction. We support individuals or a group to express themselves working only to the individual patients direction. Find out more ...
Part of the CHC's role is to make sure patients get a fair deal from the NHS. This includes Hospitals, Community Health Services, GPs, Dentists, Opticians and Pharmacists. The service at present is mainly based with short term involvement. The Advocates' role is not to advise but to explore options and provide information and support, including awareness of client's rights. The service is not specifically for clients with dementia and provides general advocacy also. Find out more ...
The Mental Capacity Act 2005 in 2007 introduces the new statutory role of the Independent Mental Capacity Advocate (IMCA) to support people who lack capacity to make certain decisions.
